Play Safe Injury Management

Providence Play Safe

The Westside Timbers takes the safety and well-being of our athletes seriously. So starting with the 2018/2019 Soccer Season we have partnered with Providence Sports Medicine and their Providence Play Safe Program, to facilitate and support families in obtaining the medical care needed in case of a concussion or other serious injury. This is really an enhancement to what we have already been providing our players.

"Providence Play Safe is an injury management program, combining the expertise of Providence's Certified Athletic Trainers and Sports Medicine Physicians with online management tools. This means faster, more effective communication to help you navigate the healthcare system following injury."

Play Safe uses the Healthy Roster software platform for reporting concussions and serious injuries. Westside Timbers Coaching Staff are responsible for reporting these in the Play Safe System.

Please click on the Providence Play Safe bar below for a Parent Information Letter about the Program.

Westside Timbers Soccer Club
Concussion Protocol

Westside Timbers Soccer Club follows the Washington State House Bill 1824, also known as the "Zackery Lystedt Law". The Lystedt Law directly affects youth sports and Traumatic Brain Injuries and requires that:

  1. An informed consent must be signed annually by parents and youth athletes acknowledging the risk of head injury prior to practice or competition - this is done when the player joins the club.

  2. A youth athlete who is suspected of sustaining a concussion must be removed from play - "when in doubt, sit them out"

Additionally the Westide Timbers Soccer Club requires:

  1. If the player is removed from play the Coach is required to relinquish the Player Card for the player to the Westside Timbers office - until the player has been cleared.

  2. A youth athlete who has been removed from play must receive written clearance from a licensed health care provider prior to returning to play. This Written Clearance must be submitted to the Westide Timbers Office:

  3. Once the office receives the letter the players card will be returned to the Coach and the player may resume practice and games.
